Afrofunk-Jam with Karl Hector & The Malcouns
Karl Hector and the Malcouns celebrate Afrofunk like no other band. Years ago, as Poets of Rhythm, they paved the way for other labels such as Daptone, Truth & Soul and Timmion, introducing their unique blunt sound. Based in Munich, the combo around Marja Burchard, daughter of Christian Burchard, the legendary co-founder of Embryo, visited M.Bassy for a jam night.
“We look to Middle Eastern funk and psychedelic fusions, and to various ethnic records for sound and phrasing,” Whitefield states. “We’re trying to combine the global experimentalism of Krautrock with the backbeat of funk.”
