Workshop #1:
12.4.2025, 1–3 PM »Still I Rise, The World Is Yours« Poetry & Writing with writer & poetess Lubi Barre
Format: Practice-oriented beginners workshop in writing & poetry
Groupe size: max. 15 participants
Duration: 2 hours
Language: English
Infos for participants: As a Somali-born poet raised in the diaspora, I come from a culture with a rich and long tradition in oral poetry. Growing up as a teenager in the suburbs of San Diego, I naturally gravitated to the rap poetry of Tupac and Nas. Their music gave me a way to explore my rich inner worlds—ones that often lacked a voice in my home culture, family, and the broader American teenage experience. This 2-hour workshop explores how poetry and music intertwine to create powerful avenues of self-expression. Participants will delve into the artistry of Tupac and Nas, breaking down lyrics, uncovering poetic devices, and writing their own poetry inspired by music. Together, we’ll explore how rap and poetry transform personal stories into universal truths, reminding us that while our struggles shape us, our voices are what define us.
Location: M.Bassy e.V., Schlüterstraße 80, 20146 Hamburg
Participation free of charge (incl. drinks & snacks),
